Thick Skin and A Jeweled Heart [9]

"I have no idea how to explain it to you."        "Nice." I deadpanned, giving them all an unimpressed glare. "So, like, what now? You're gonna let me go my own merry way? Lovely. Dandy," I stood up from the cold floor, swaying. Hugo reached out for me but I slapped his hand away. "I'll be going now! See you at school--"        "Wait!"        Everyone turned their heads towards Jade. She had stood up as well, her face lighting up as an idea struck her. "We'll show you."        Hugo looked taken aback. "Show him? We can't show him.  I came all this way just to go back?" He stood up too.        "He's from Germany." Matt whispered to me, still sitting down.        "We don't even have a plan yet!" exclaimed Hugo in disbelief.        "Don't worry," Meri stood up, too, standing beside Jade. "I have a plan."     ...

Warning: Blood and gore        The rest of the day went by as normally as any other day should; the sand in the Hourglass flowed smoothly, almost all of it at the bottom now, indicating near nighttime; Stones bustled about in the corridors, up and down spiral staircases and in and out of rooms to prepare the Royal family their dinner; Ian was in his room, staring out of his window which showed a view of his kingdom.         Stalagmites rose from the stone ground covering his world, chipped and chiseled to resemble homes, littering the ground. Their windows winked at Ian, their prince. Rivers flowed between the houses like bright blue glittering ribbons, loosely tying them together. Ian stared, mind drifting someplace else, as shadows shifted from behind the windows. Families are getting ready for dinner.        Dinner.        Ian looked up towards the high ceiling of the vast cave...

"The King wishes to see you."        A young girl at the age of ten looked up  from a stone figurine of a mighty steed. It huffed and flipped its mane before going once again stagnant, only scuffing its hooves against the girl's palm intermittently. She placed it on her bed, jumping off and walking to a man in his 20's.        The man's skin was light green with specks of copper and gold resembling freckles all over his complexion. His eyes and lips were shiny and of a deeper green. Even his hair looked shiny and kept in place. Actually, his whole body was shiny. It seems, that the man was made out of pure aventurine, a kind of mineral.        The man nodded and stepped aside to let the girl out of her room. As she walked alongside the man, she smiled. "You're always so odd, brother. Would it hurt you to speak more?"        Her brother just glanced down at his little s...

William Carter, aged 45 years old, with a mop of black hair and brown eyes to die for.       Liam's dad.       The person who raised Liam. Loves Liam. And hurt Liam, both physically and mentally.       Liam's resemblance to his dad is unmistakable; strong jaw, broad shoulders, determined eyes. William stared at a photograph of Liam and his wife. Both were young and happy in the picture, smiling. They have the same smile, with matching dimples. Oh how he missed those dimples. Seeing them smile and be the reason behind it feels rewarding for William. Shame he couldn't do that anymore. He's and embarrassment to himself.       A failure of a dad.       He knew he should've been there for his son these last 6 years and not succumb to grief. He wasn't the only one who lost a loved one. Liam had no one after his mother died. His mother. William's wife, his dear Stella. He drank and drank a...

17th April, 2019       School passed in a blur. Before I knew it, I was already walking home.       No, not home. I won't be going there for a few days.       Let me start over.       School passed in a blur. Before I knew it, I was already walking towards the abandoned graveyard.       Who cares if I'll meet Jades and her stupid healing stone. Or Meri and the twins. I need to visit someone important.       I took off my backpack and hugged it tight against my chest, sitting cross legged in front of a particular tombstone. It read, " Stella Carter, 1976-2013. A loving wife and mother."       "Good evening, mom. Are the angels treating you well?" I smiled a bittersweet smile. " I brought food from the cafeteria. It's just... stale pizza." I chuckled to myself as I take out said pizza from my bag. "It got flattened, but still good enough to eat." I took a bite and spoke w...

17th April, 2019       A week has passed and Liam still hasn't come to school.       Jade looked again at the empty seat beside her and pursed her lips. 'Did we freak him out? Oh no. Or is he talking to the police? Oh no that's even worse.' She kept thinking about what happened to him, the mythology teacher teaching in the background.       "The term 'fallen angel' is used to describe angels who sinned, therefor casted out of heaven--" A weak knock interrupted both the teacher and Jade's thoughts.       At the doorway stood Liam, his figure hunched. His hoodie covered most of his face and he gripped his backpack tighter. "Sorry I'm late." His familiar voice echoed slightly around the silent classroom.       "It's quite alright, Liam. Please, have a seat."       "Thank you, Mister Smith." Liam mumbled quietly.       "No problem, sonny." Mister Smith replied, his face sho...

WARNING: Contains incest, sexual abuse.       As I was walking into my front lawn, I thought about what happened. Meri's silver hair. Jade's golden eyes. I stood on the steps leading to my front door. They didn't have that before.       I sighed and reached into my shirt for my key. I took off the necklace attached to the key then proceeded to unlock my front door. Before walking in I roll down my sleeve, hiding my bandaged arm.       I tried to stay quiet and sneak through the living room, but no one sneaks past my father. Especially when he's drunk.       My breath was knocked out of me as he pushed me against the wall. I glanced at the bottles of alcohol littered across the floor in the dim lights of my living room. My father's hot breath fanned against my face, the stench of alcohol prominent.       "Where were you...?" He slurred, his eyes full of.. something. It's not anger...
